I tried to help them as much as I could and a year later I received an email with a picture of twins and a lot of prayers.- Dr. Asif Sohrab
Times of Youth: For those who don’t know about you and your work, can you tell us a little about yourself?
Asif Sohrab: Hi there. My name is Asif Sohrab. I am a doctor by profession and a patriot by the soul. I belong to a very small village in Malakand KPK.
Times of Youth: How would you describe your work to someone who has never known about it?
Asif Sohrab: Basically we do different things altogether. For example, if a student who is deserving, achieving good grades but cannot afford the expenses of his education, we help them. We try to help people in their education, getting the basic necessities of life, helping the needy ones to get shelter, helping them in learning something productive which can help them to live a peaceful life. We also visit different areas of Pakistan which are affected by droughts, floods, earthquakes or other natural or man-made disasters.
Times of Youth: What sparked your initial interest in making the Facebook page named as “Young Pakistan” & “Doctor ASKY”?
Asif Sohrab: We had a student at our University who was quietly brilliant, but unfortunately she had some accidents and couldn’t afford her studies. I myself approached different people (pages/groups) but no one responded in a positive way and they were not even willing to post about it on their pages. So I decided to take things into my own hands and came up with the idea of Young Pakistan. We faced some problems in the start, but Alhamdulillah, now everything is getting better and bigger day by day, thanks to the hardworking team.
About Doctor ASKY, well I had seen a lot of people asking different questions regarding health and mostly on the health pages/websites, they do not provide them answers without charging them something or at least forcing them to sign up a website. So I thought of making a page and I answer every question asked on the page and my doctors’ team of the page help in that. Now we even have a website i.e., doctorasky.com.
Times of Youth: What is that one thing that you are most proud of?
Asif Sohrab: I never give up on anything, learned that from my father, so yes I am proud of it.
Times of Youth: What kind of a student were you in your schooling years?
Asif Sohrab: Throughout in my school and college life I was always in the top 3 students.
Times of Youth: On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate yourself as a doctor?
Asif Sohrab: That would be self-praising, I think my patients can best rate me as a doctor. But Alhamdulillah, my patients are always satisfied.
Times of Youth: Which current medical discoveries/innovations do you look up to as being the most lucrative?
Asif Sohrab: There has been some amazing research going on the lab-grown human organs and its success is very important for the benefit of mankind. It will help a lot.
Times of Youth: What does being a doctor mean to you?
Asif Sohrab: It means everything to me. I love to help people and I believe doctors can help others in many ways.
Times of Youth: Tell us one incident that you experienced as a medico which changed your life/perspective.
Asif Sohrab: In 2012, I was still a student and I received a text message from someone on my page. A couple who were married for a long time but they had no children. According to them they tried a lot of doctors but never got any positive results. So they wanted some advice and suggestions. I tried to help them as much as I could and a year later I received an email with a picture of twins and a lot of prayers. That was a ‘goosebumps’ moment for me and changed my world in many positive ways.
Times of Youth: As a doctor, what according to you is the most important habit that the youth of today should keep?
Asif Sohrab: Nowadays, our youth prefer carbonated drinks more than water. As a matter of fact, water is much more important and nothing can replace it. I would like to see everyone with a bottle of water rather than some other damaging drinks.
Times of Youth: What is one question nobody has ever asked you— that you wish they asked you?
Asif Sohrab: There are many, (winks).
Times of Youth: What is the first word that comes to your mind when you read the following
- Facebook: Use it positively
- Parents: Universe
- Work: Hard
- Youth: Future
- Nation: Comes First
Times of Youth: In this fast-paced world, with all the craziness and workloads, how do you de-stress?
Asif Sohrab: I turn off my phone, tablet, laptop. Take a shower and I recite The Holy Quran with translation. It helps me a lot. Everyone should try this.
Times of Youth: What are your goals for the next five years?
Asif Sohrab: Building a modern hospital in my village where the needy people can get quality service without being charged.
Times of Youth: Any message to your followers via Times of Youth?
Asif Sohrab: Never ever give up. When you want to start something there are two ways of getting to the top. Taking a shortcut will take away your inner peace, your self-respect, and your sleep. Work hard, do well, believe in yourself. Every person when he’s born is a nobody, but by constant struggle and hard work, the world remembers them for eternity.
Times of Youth: Do tell us how followers can contact you to share their appreciation/feedback/suggestions.
Asif Sohrab: My facebook, twitter or email.
