My name is Annamaria Cignola Petroro and I am an artist, mother and wife. I was born and raised in Montreal, Canada and I am of Italian descent. I began to appreciate all forms of art as a young girl but it was at the age of 14 that I started to focus on painting. I studied Fine Arts at Concordia University. However, my family was my priority and I was never able to complete my degree. I consider myself to be mostly self-taught and I take pleasure in learning from the great masters by doing many reproductions in order to challenge myself and become skilled at many different techniques. I enjoy painting a bit of everything – from abstract art to portraiture to impressionist art. I take inspiration from my culture, my family, my travels and other forms of art.
I had my first solo exhibition in the city of Montreal and to my surprise it was quite successful. This encouraged me to produce more, work harder and share my work with others. Since then, I have donated my work to charities and I have also been commissioned to produce specific pieces. Recently however, I was asked to be represented by Agora Gallery in New York. I will be part of a collective exhibition, which will take place this upcoming June. This will be the first time that my art will appear in gallery and I am overjoyed with excitement!
